OUR BARGE CADHLA WAS THE COUNTY'S FIRST ELECTRIC PASSENGER SHIP
Our barge MV CADHLA was launched in Dún Laoire upon its arrival by trailer from the Netherlands on Monday 21st December 2009. The first lady of ceremony was her namesake, 4 year old Miss Keela (Cadhla) Rigby who cracked a bottle of Guinness Stout across her bows. She then sailed to the Grand Canal Dock where she underwent a final fitout before opening in February 2010.
The vessel is a replica of a 1920 Guinness Grand Canal barge and she is fitted out to the highest standards. She has an overall length of 17 meters and a width of 3.8 meters. The modern art deco styled interior is fitted with a full audio system, and can seat up to 48 passengers in comfort. She is also fitted with a full galley (kitchen) and bar.
SHE IS ELECTRIC !
Our barge runs on modern lithium based batteries, and thus cruises the canal in silence complementing the peaceful environment of the beautiful Grand Canal
Enjoy a wonderful cruise through the ages on a replica Guinness Canal barge
